Is
Land or the Stock Market a Better Investment?
Land is a much better investment than the stock market,
because the stock market may not be here tomorrow; however,
the land will always be here, and has been since time began.
You do not hear about insider trading* when it comes to
land (the insider would probably like having his land traded,
at least for something worthwhile,) while the stock exchange
would either put you in jail or give you a hefty fine, or
both.
Land retains its value where stock does not. Personally,
watching the rise and fall of my land, while sitting in
a rocking chair or on a tree stump, would be a much better
prospect to enjoy, than sitting in front of a computer for
endless hours watching the stock market rise and fall.
When asked which was a better investment, land or the
stock market, Mike Duffy, Iowa State University agriculture
economist (mduffy@iastate.edu), stated; “a $1,000
investment in land in the year 2000 would now be worth $1,155,
while an investment in the Dow Jones would be worth $895.”
Another aspect of land vs. the stock market is; when the
stock market crashes it affects everyone in the world. If
a tree were to crash on your property, the only effect it
could have is, a hole in your roof or hit your car, or it
becomes food and mulch for the land.
* “Insider trading occurs when a trade has been influenced
by the privileged possession of corporate information that
has not yet been made public. Because the information is
not available to other investors, a person using such knowledge
is trying to gain an unfair advantage over the rest of the
market.” (Investopedia.com. http://www.investopedia.com/articles/03/100803.asp
